Bill Briney retired today.  Shhh, I had a piece of cake.  Bill has been a scaler in the log yard forever.  I came to know him as co-captain of the Relay for Life team.  The end of another era...

Tuesday, time to call my grandparents.
"It must be Tuesday!"
Yep.

Waited until the state of the union speech was over tonight.

Went through all my albums today.  Was in search of a certain layout.  Didn't find it, but found plenty of fun memories!

Valentines day fun!  Kids are coming this weekend, getting their goodies ready.  Went super simple this year, but of course a little wacky, and Bruce's tiny package seems fun.

Yesterday we couldn't get in the presidential library due to the government shutdown.  Luckily we got another shot at it today. Learned a lot about LBJ and Lady Bird Johnson.

Our airbnb apartment was near Congress street, which leads to the capital grounds.  We walked there, we biked there, we learned how to Segway there.

I hate choosing just one photo on vacation days!  But I loved our segway tour, so here goes.  We ended up with a private tour since January isn't heavy tourism time.  What a great way to explore the city!

We have found ourselves in Austin.

Why Austin?

Austin is the capital of the U.S. state of Texas. It is the 11th-most populous city in the United States and the 4th-most populous city in Texas. It is the fastest growing large city in the United States and the southern-most state capital in the contiguous 48 states.

At night, parts of Austin are lit by "artificial moonlight" from Moonlight Towers built to illuminate the central part of the city. The 165-foot (50 m) moonlight towers were built in the late 19th century and are now recognized as historic landmarks.

Austinites include a diverse mix of government employees, college students, and musicians. The city's official slogan promotes Austin as "The Live Music Capital of the World," a reference to the city's many musicians and live music venues.  In recent years, some Austinites have also adopted the unofficial slogan "Keep Austin Weird," which refers to the desire to protect small, unique, and local businesses from being overrun by large corporations.

Why not Austin?

A new Pokemon legendary was released this weekend.  Kyogre possesses the ability to expand the oceans.  We hung out with our Pokemon friends trying to catch him.  He is by the far the most difficult we have encountered yet.  It alluded Bruce for quite awhile.

It's Friday, which makes me very happy.  Here's another Christmas gift. 1990 was a very good year!

We got an Angry Mama microwave cleaner for Christmas.  Makes me giggle.

Do as your mother says, and clean up after your mess, using the Angry Mama Microwave Clearer. Angry Mama blows off some major steam in the microwave, which results in crud and sticky residue being removed. To use, fill with water and vinegar.

Trying to get steps in around rain showers, found ourselves downtown. I always love historic Columbia Theater as a backdrop.

Made it to Friday!  What a long week for a short week!

I wore my Christmas gifts today; vest from mom, necklace from Bruce.  Fun!

Bruce got this poster of the birds of North America from Shanna today.  Fun!

The Indian peafowl was first brought to Hawaii in 1860. It was brought to the continental United States first in 1879, in California.

Packaging up Christmas items, doing a deep purge.  Our tree may be bare next year!  Eliminated four boxes of decorations.

I thought Bruce might have some opinions on what to keep or not, so I sorted stuff by KEEP, MAYBE and GONE, but he seems to be happy with everything in GONE.

As 2017 and my focus word Enough wraps up, meet Alter.  This hedgehog, a gift from Xander, will be my reminder and mascot for my 2018 focus word.  I want to alter a lot of things in my life this year, mix things up, get beyond the limbo.  And, of course, get Anastasia to the altar!
