I’ve been looking for volunteer options since we moved to
Seattle. I thought Samaritan would be a good
fit but it didn’t work out. Bruce had
toured and liked the Orion Center, so when I saw a NextDoor plea to help serve brunch
monthly there, in 1984. At the time, it
was one of the first programs in the nation to receive a federal grant enabling
six agencies working with runaway awe signed up. It was laid back and fun.
The center is a shelter of sorts for youth up to age 24. Multiple partners created a constellation of
services—thus, the name Orion.
