We had an ice cream social to celebrate Roberta today. She's retiring and we are happy for her and sad for ourselves.

Dinner with Diana and Nathaniel in International District. We had dessert at City Hall Park to see the face projected onto the trees.

Wow, we've had some rain! Not our normal drizzle, but the kind of rain that completely soaks us. It still felt good to move though!

Week four, fourth troll.
This is Frankie Feetsplitter in Ballard, and his feet are splitting a bench.
His poem is kind of silly:
Frankie don’t like slimy fish, cause
fishes are all so dumb
And Frankie don’t like little
humans,
humans are so dumb
Frankie don’t even like trolls, cause
trolls are also dumb
But Frankie’s mouth the only one
that
Says the word of dumb

This might be a favorite troll. Too bad he had to be dismantled due to too many visitors. A few have been swept away from storms too.

Anastasia and I went to visit Grampa Rod today. It's fun to listen to his stories and harmonica playing.

Three weekends, three trolls found.
This is Bruun Idun in Lincoln Park. She is playing a flute with a song for the
orcas.
Her poem:
“At the night there was a storm, there at the beach where
she was born.
And Idun felt a feeling wrong, and so she walked
there in the dawn.
And on her flute the magic horn, a tunes so
passionate and strong.
She played for them orca song, to ask them where
they all have gone.”

One of my goals this year is to try new restuarants that have been on my radar for awhile. Today we finally made it to Bentoful, a create your own bento that I walk by all the time but has hours that don't amtch our schedules. Bruce's bento was very brown, but I got to enjoy a lot of greens. Thumbs up!

Last minute box seats for the Mariners game!
Only day to inintentionally fall off my 21 day fast; LeeNell brought me a fair scone in the morning, and free brownies in the evening in the box. So much for avoiding temptation.

Off to Issaquah to see the troll, Jakob Two Trees.
It was way crowded and the sun was in the wrong spot for photography, so we will come back another morning.
His poem:
A hundred circle suns not old
Cause time will stretch
And loop and fold
So stop breathe in-
Breathe out. Behold
The trees has sung
The story is told

So close, but so far out of reach. We were happy that Ludi's reopened, and even closer to us, but their new hours (closed at 3pm) and long lines have been two detractors for us.
We finally made it today, for Anastasia's birthday brunch. We got ube pancakes, silog, lumpia, and a halo halo (party in a cup!)

TGIF!
We went to Unicorn, a carnival themed bar, to
usher in Sabbath and another weekend. Pink Flamingo drink (pink lemonade
vodka, sour, cranberry, dry cherry soda) and Narwhal balls (fried cheesy
potato croquettes with roasted garlic aioli).
And a lovely walk home because evening weather
has been oh so perfect this week.

I saw a photo this week where a tree was in the foreground but was not the subject of the photo. I'm looking for opportunitties to recreate something similar, but may need to get out of the city with more trees!

Walking around the city and noticed this tree with the leaves turning fall colors. LOVE fall, hate winter!

Happy Labor Day! The city has a ton of tourists all over the sidewalks, partly due to PAX. I like the vibe, but get tired of dodging people who aren't paying very much attention to anything around them.

I am so excited about the trolls coming to the Pacific
Northwest! I have seen photos of the trolls
this artist makes and love them and never thought it would be so easy to see
them close to home. Anastasia and I took
the ferry to Bainbridge and walked a pleasant mile to the park.
Each troll has a poem written by the artist.
Thomas Dambo is a Danish artist who works with recycled materials to
place over 100 troll sculptures all over the world. The NW Trolls, Way of the Bird King project, is presented by Scan Design
Foundation, whose mission is to advance Danish-American relations,
celebrates the human experience of art by amplifying a network of communities
and it reinforces shared values of environmental stewardship and
sustainability.
Pia’s Poem:
Pretty pretty please,
let’s keep the peace beneath the trees. Hold you in my hand I will remind you
with a squeeze. Quiet little people cause your criers make me tired. Pia likes
to play with people, people they keep quiet.
Pia “is like a playful troll, because she is playing with the
humans, but she’s also a little bit scary, because she’s kind of strong, like a
little girl can sometimes by accident break a leg or poke an eye out or light a
fire to the hair of her doll,” Thomas Dambo said. “Don’t upset Pia, because you
might lose a leg.”

Wrapping up book bingo, one of my highlights of summer. Worked hard to finish Just Us to get three bingos. Twelve books, many I would not have otherwise read, another good reading summer!
I enjoyed the two Tom Hanks books, glad I finally read The Library Book off my shelf, and Haunting of Hill House and Serial Killers Wife have stuck with me (not just for being more suspense than I am used to).

As the sunset surrounds our apartment with soft warm light, I'm trying to enjoy it rather than be sad that summer weather is starting to wind down.
