Mom and I walked by the sea serpent at the Google campus in South Lake Union. It’s called “The Wanderer”, a large-scale rainbow-hued sculpture that appears to have slithered out of Lake Union and paused amid the office buildings, like some Loch Ness monster that suddenly decided it likes the limelight. The triple-arced snake shape is intended to break up the rectilinear cityscape. is one continuous taper — starting at 30 inches in diameter at the head and diminishing toward 0 by the tip of the tail.  The team painted the steel segments in gradient color (transitioning from blue to green to yellow) in order to give it a slinky sense of movement. It includes an animated light element running snout to tail that will be “visible at night and on dreary winter days,” Culler says.

Anastasia at the Paramount today, sandwiched between church and dinner at Carasas.  It was a long time to sleep, but it was well done.

Difficult to photograph a moving glass ornament.

Weyerhaeuser is such a big part of my life.  I spend so much time at work.  Now that work has trauma, it is difficult to get away from the pain.

Tylenol PM helps...

My morning walk was after hearing the devestating news that my boss Chad passed away yesterday.

The workers are removing the lights from the big tree on Stewart Street.

I'll miss the light - the light of the huge tree, the light Chad brought to our team, Chad's vision for our project...

Free day!  Several pounds lighter after the sacrifice, but the weekly free days really help to stay focused the rest of the week.

I've been craving Mochinut donuts and I liked their flavors this week, so we walked for donuts.  Glad we could get a 3 pack instead of a 6 pack.

We walked along Alki today.  I liked the fencing of love locks with Seattle skyline in the background.

I did not get a photo of Joan and I in front of the Hard Rock guitar like I had planned.

But I did get a photo of this creepy child manequin in a long forgotten corner of Targets window displays.  I've wanted to photograph it for awhile but always feel weird about people seeing me taking the photo.

Oh, wiat, no Christmas this weekend after all.  Christmas in February.  We hope.

Anastasia and Jacob are taking their turn at Covid.

We've had this silly reindeer forever, we bought him at a craft fair ages ago, love him.

Looking forward to Christmas this weekend.

My annual January task of repacking the emergency supplies.  Except I skipped a few years so all the food was expired.  New plan, only get really long life food.  The 30 year life chicken and rice will be fabulous if we even need it, I'm sure!

Happy Free Day!

More art on the wall on Capital Hill.  Near the cinnamon roll store where we got dessert.

We did our walking from Capital Hill today.  I liked the cat graffiti that was sprinkled around.  Well, I don't like graffiti, but if it has to be there I like when it is art.

The Moore Theatre and the adjoining Moore Hotel was built in 1907 by the flamboyant Seattle real estate developer James A. Moore and remains as the oldest operating theater in Seattle.  The theatre had a stylistically neutral exterior compared to its extravagant interior of onyx, marble, stained glass, muses, mosaic floors, with ivory, old rose, olive and gold décor.

We sat in the 2nd balcony, used during the racially segregated period of its history with its separate side entrance (and a gazillion stairs!).  Here’s the view from there, where we watched Whose Live Anyway.

We went to a UW basketball game tonight.

Not sure what was more fun, watching the game, watching the hot heads at the end of the game, or walkign around in circles looking for the elusive Founders Club.

We walked through Pioneer Square in Pioneer Square today.  The park was so clean, so void of tents and homeless.  We had to pause and soak it in.

The tiny park holds an iron pergola that was built in 1909 as a shelter over an underground restroom, known as "the finest underground restroom in the United States".

Today we took a long walk for a little taco for lunch.  Re ordering our lives to be less food oriented isn't always fun.

We popped in to MOPOP for awhile, watched some videos about movies and the Seattle music scene.  On the way this view struck me - the Seattle icon in the background, tents in the foreground.  They Bruce told me the building (Gates Foundation) has Bill Gates' office.

As we talk so much about equity we seem to be getting further and further apart.

A view of the waterfront through a snowflake light.  Artistic.  Nice the rain let up so we could walk after about 48 hours of not leaving the apartment building this week.

I'm really enjoying this fellow.  He hangs out beside my desk, a decoration addition from Bruce Sr.'s stash.

We've been using vinegar as salad dressing.  We have enjoyed this flavored balsamic from the Pike Place Market for years. This past week it has been closed each time we walked down to try to buy more.  When we asked them about it, they said they didn't have much sales.  Yep, if you close after an hour, you won't get much sales.

I was supposed to go to the office today.  After 17 days of no or short work days, it felt a bit much.  But, HQ is now closed the month of January due to Omicron.  I still wore my more professional close, but was happy to pair them with slippers!

Free day!!!

Body for Life has one day a week where you can eat whatever you want.  I wanted vegetables and sugar.  Not finding Golden Oreos at the store, I went nostalgic with the butter cookies.

My word for 2022 is Rebalance.  It means to balance again or restore the correct balance to.  I want to apply it to realigning  health, finances, work/life balance, and continuing pandemic rhythms.

Success this year looks like:

  • practice sustainable balance between to-do's and relaxing
  • early planning for retirement, decide on investment strategy
  • Self publish my book, or decide not to
  • complete 3 Career Contessa on-line courses
  • use all 5 weeks of my vacation time
  • more short PWN adventures/urban hikes
  • support Tanuia if she gets released
  • read at least 60 books, 25 non-fiction
  • Lose 10% of body weight, or get comfortable with where I am
